Geographical Association Conference Recap: Sheffield, April 2026

Written by

I really enjoyed attending and presenting at the Geographical Association 2026 conference in Sheffield.

Here’s a quick video recap and some key takeaways I’d love to share with you.

It was a pleasure to be back in Sheffield and to see so many teachers and geographers thinking carefully about positioning and the influence we have on how our students read and engage with the world around them.

I was proud to share my work on rethinking our use of frameworks in geography. I’ll be sharing the full lecture in my next post.

Despite the best attempts of Eurowings and their last minute cancellations, I still made it home safe and now have plenty to consider after thoughtful conversations with colleagues, collaborators, and people whose work continues to inspire me.

A big thank you to Simon Oakes for the run through of my presentation and inviting me to support his presentation about Managing political change and challenge in the geography classroom.

It was great to see a collection of people in person to see their presentations, pass quickly in the corridor, share a kind word, or just confirm that we are real people, not just people on a screen; Alan Parkinson, Dr David Preece, Fran Martin, Steve Brace, Richard Bustin, Kit Marie Rackley, Alistair Hamill, Stacey Hill, Jessica Burger FCCT, peter vujakovic, and apologies to those I missed Mark Enser, Saaleh Patel, Rebecca Kitchen, and many more!

My excitement for the upcoming changes to geography as curriculums are reviewed and refreshed is at an all time high!
