Written by

DSinclairWriting — A mindmap of the meaning of Project Based Learning. With PBL in the centre, the word connects to; Everyday Geographies, Formative Assessment, Success Criteria, Student Voice and Agency, Authentic Audience, and Driving Question

Following on from a wonderful presentation at the #GAConf22, I thought it would be a good idea to make an easy and central location for people to access the resources created by myself and Briley Habib (@Map_Addict on Twitter).

The following resources provide a completed example of a Project Based Learning scheme of work, along with all of the paperwork and scaffolding that you would need to produce your own version of the project suitable for the context of your school and classes.

If you make use of the resources below PLEASE LET US KNOW! Connect with us on Twitter (@dsinclair17 and @Map_Addict) and make use of #MyfirstPBL and we will be happy to offer support and feedback, or simply celebrate your venture into Project Based Learning!

GA Workshop — Building a Project

GA Workshop — Building a Project + PBL Scheme Inspiration

Designed for and shared during our conference presentation, this pair of documents is a guiding structure to design your own Project Based Learning scheme of work from scratch. This is combined with a Padlet where different teachers have shared their ideas for their own projects.

The document goes through the individual steps you need to make your own Project Based Learning schemes of work. To support this, it also includes a comprehensive example for you to see what it may look like upon completion.

Please feel free to copy the document and make use of it in your planning. We invite you to add your ideas to the padlet to support other teachers who are beginning their first Project Based Learning schemes of work #teachercommunity.

Reading this article: How Getting Your Students to Teach Can Increase Their Success and Support Decolonising your Classroom will support engaging with this document.

It works through the planning required to complete a Project Based Learning event where the students teach the class in the place of the teacher. To support your use of the document, there is a complete example including a lesson-by-lesson planner, student resources, and Success Criteria.

PBL Unit IGCSE Geography — Development

Produced by Briley Habib, this unit is used during the IGCSE Development topic. This completed Project Based Learning scheme of work includes the driving question, mark schemes direct from the IGCSE curriculum, group organisation, curriculum extracts, and a reflection task

The work provided can be adapted to other sections of the curriculum with simple edits to the driving questions and the overall activity, using the existing scaffolding and organisation.

We hope that with these resources, you are able to undertake your first Project Based Learning scheme of work.

We look forward to seeing #MyfirstPBL and celebrating your success!
